Well its been a busy couple of months on the ol' artwork front here. I've just finished work on the artwork for a story for the first issue of "Innocent Tales", written by Gavin McComiskey. Its one of three strips in the first issue, with artwork for the other two being provided by the awesome Anthony O' Neill and Steven Richardson (Not to mention a stunning cover by Tommie Kelly). Its due out in August, and you can check out all the info at the Green Monkey Comics website.
This month, as part of the 10 Days in Dublin event, there is a comics exhibition on in The Twisted Pepper in Abbey Street (Right beside the Luas), called "Little Room of Comics". Its a showcase of all the great Irish talented comic book creators. I'll have quite a few bits on display and for sale there, so if you are in town pop in and have a look, and maybe even grab yourself something cool.
I'm also kicking around a couple of other things that I cant talk about just yet (cause I'm shy!), but keep your eyes out and I might let you know soon.

Here's a little Batman picture I did while I was "working". I'm quite happy with how it turned out, maybe I just prefer this version to moody Bats. Enjoy!
Here's the first page I've done for the next installment of Short Sharp Shocks. I was going to say something amusing but its waaay to early in the morning... enjoy!

Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-70125951320081024162013-04-04T00:53:00.001-07:002013-04-04T00:53:07.713-07:00Back from the abyss....OK, so its been an embarrassingly long time since I updated this blog, so I should have loads of stuff to write about right? Well.... probably. I have been doing a lot of stuff in the last while, but mostly for other people so there's not too much to talk about. I did two strips for the first issue of Lightning Strike (the second issue is out now too!), and a cover for Abandoned Comics Blackstar Issue 1 (also on sale now). I've also been doing a lot of private commission stuff, which is cool to do but I don't get to show it off.
As for my own stuff? well Short Sharp Shocks is three issues old now and I'm going to start on issue four (soon, I promise!), but they are all on sale in most Dublin comic book shops. If you haven't picked them up yet, here's a link to a couple of reviews to help you make up your mind:

I'll be updating the blog a bit more regularly as I go along with the production of issue 4. I'm also taking down the dedicated Short Sharp Shocks blog to kind of streamline things a bit (and because typing in www.shortsharpshockscomic.blogspot.com is a pain in the wrist!). So stay tuned! And since you have been so good in reading all the way down to here, here's some pretty pictures!
It was officially unveiled to the public over the weekend, with one of the stories I worked on, "Inscription" being the first to be released. You should keep an eye on this one, all the work that has gone into this is fantastic. you can have a look at it here: http://bots-of-honor.deviantart.com/ do check it out, there a great cover design by James Biggie for this story too.

So here's the whole first story for you to have a look at. And now, after nearly five months, its almost ready to go. I have four pages of story to draw up, get it printed and thats it! I'm quite surprised its gone quite well, considering its considerable bit larger than issue 1 was (this one's a whopping 33 pages of new strips, and possibly a couple of other goodies thrown in aswell).
So if things go OK for the next couple of weeks, there is a very slim outside chance I'll have a few copies ready for the Dublin Toy & Comic Mart, which is happening in Wynns Hotel on the 21st of May. If not, it will be early June and hopefully I'll be able to arrange a launch at some point, so I can sign a few copies and do some sketches.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it up to Derry this year, but I may be able to send a few copies up anyway.

Ger

Gerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09474650001744548391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-10534546505272622842010-12-16T00:07:00.000-08:002010-12-16T03:12:19.722-08:00I know its going to make me sound really old, but 2010 really felt like it flew by. Its not like in my day, when the time would drag along like its supposed to. Damn kids, yadda yadda...
I've been very busy the last few months, even though if you were looking at this blog it may have appeared that I fell off the face of the Earth. I have been pottering away on three Transformers strips, hopefully they will be seeing the light sometime in the new year.
I've also become a contributor to Sketchpaddys, a regular blog where Irish artists Robert Carey, Ciaran Finnegan, Cormac Hughes (and now me) show off their talents. Have a look, but some of the stuff is slightly NSFW (Robert Careys, er, interpretation of Brian Cowen probably isn't safe for civilised society full stop!) There's a black & white version of this Judge Dredd pic up on there too.
My plan over the Christmas break is to get as much of my outstanding artwork out of the way (though I did have a bit of a chat with Santa, so I know what my kids are getting, and I may end up getting slightly distracted!), and start work on Issue 2 of Short Sharp Shocks in the New Year. I'm hoping to have something to show by the time the next Irish comic convention comes around. So I'd better get my thinking cap on and do a bit of writing!
Thanks to everyone who bought a copy of Issue 1 this year (if you still want a copy you can buy it from Dublin City Comics & Collectibles or online at Indyplanet. It's been kept under wraps for the last while, but they have let a little preview out so I thought it would be a good idea to talk about it.
The guys behind the Transformers: Mosaic project (a fantastic idea for fan comics, if you are anyway interested in robots or comics you should check them out) have decided to organise a massive undertaking. I'm nearly finished my part of that, then I've a one-page story for the afforementioned Mosaic project to do. When I'm finished those it will be time to sink my teeth into a really big project (for me anyway); I have written a script which I'm hoping to have turned into a comic for sometime next year. So stay tuned, and I'll keep you updated when I have some news!

GerGer Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-47559447730241394062010-07-26T03:00:00.000-07:002010-07-26T04:19:25.128-07:00Last weekend was Summer Edition, and the last comic "event" in Ireland for a few months. Its a bit different in that its not exclusively a comics event, there are a number of other small press and self-published works for sale. Some of the stuff people produce is just amazing. I'll make a point of hyping this a bit more next year cause even if you are not a comics fan, and like a nice book (of nice looking things in general), its well worth your while stopping in. A big thanks to Phil, Paddy & Katie for all their hard work in organising this and well done on its sucess. I had a great (and worthwhile) time at it and most of the people who I talked to did too.
I started doing a few little sketches on postcard-size card, and sort of using them as a "business card" type of thing (I was giving them away with every sale and they had my contact info on them). The seemed pretty popular and are fairly easy to do, so I think thats going to be an idea I'll be sticking with.
"Short Sharp Shocks" is selling well, so thanks to anyone who bought it! If you want to let me know what you thought of it, feel free to drop me a line with your tuppence-worth.
I've a couple of things in the pipeline at the minute; two Transformers strips that I'm currently working on and then its on to my next self-published project. Its the biggest thing I've tried so far, and I'm just hoping I turns out OK!
Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-87364828397680439582010-06-21T02:24:00.000-07:002010-06-22T02:02:51.848-07:00Brace yourselves, this ones long!Hello there again! After a busy cople of months on the comics front, I thought it might be a good time to sit down and write about it before it gets mental again! And one of these days I'll set myself aside a few minutes each week to actually write this bloody thing too, cause my memory isn't what its used to be and its a strain trying to remember back a month... what was I talking about again?
First off, I recently had a new Transformers: Mosaic piece published. It's called "What'cha gonna do?" and was over a year in the making. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the response it received. Have a look for yourself;

The summer months of June & July are becoming the "convention season" over here in Ireland, and it was kicked off in Derry with the 2D comics festival, which is my favourite convention. My wife Hazel and I went up and she got to see what I do in my spare time. Needless to say she sees me in a whole new light! If you have a chance next year I would recommend you give this one a go. It's free (always a good thing!) and there is a great mix of big-name comic celebrities and independent creators all mixed in together. I made a few sales & had a portfolio review with Steve White, editor of Titan Magazines in the UK. I didn't get any work out of it, but he was kind enough to give me a few good pointers, and enough compliments to send me on my way without feeling completely crushed. As usual at these, I had a great time with all the small press crowd, the guys from Longstone Comics, Tommie Kelly, Andy Luke (and his impressive harmonica skills!) to name but a few. A big thanks & well done to David Campbell & all at the Verbal Arts Centre for putting on another good event. Have a read-up of Andy Luke's coverage of the event, and I think he might have said something nice about me in there too!

The following week (told you it's been busy) was the inaugural Point Village Market Comics Festival, organised by the hyperactive Hilbo Lawler. For its first run out, it proved to be a big sucess, though I think I (and most of the other exhibitors too) spent more than we made at the food stalls in the market! I brought two of my sons along for the day so they could attend the excellent comic workshops. They had a great time and made me look good too, which is a plus! I think it suffered slightly from the fact that the market itself is only finding its feet, and its just ever so slightly far enough outside town for people to think twice about heading out there, but hopefully those little bumps will be ironed out by the time the next one rolls around. I did pretty well on the sales front as well as a mention on bleedingcool.com, so all in all I'd have to give it a big thumbs up. Once again, a big thanks to everyone involved in the orgainsing & running of this and the workshops too. By the way, I have to give a mention to Marty & the guys at Comics & Collectibles in Derry, who were selling at both events and had some great deals. They are really cool approachable guys who make it fun to go browsing & buying comics. Thanks to Marty my house now has a Hawkman & Blue Devil fan!

Next up is Summer Edition 2010, on in Filmbase in Temple Bar on the 24th of July. This one is a little different as it is a much wider range of small press creators as well as us comic book types. I was at this on last year too, and I was really impressed with the range & quality of the stuff being put out by people on their own. If you are around the city centre at all, its well worth spending an hour of your day here.

As for what I'm doing while I'm not sitting around trying to sell people stuff? Well first off, my comic Short Sharp Shocks, is geting some good feedback, which is great. In fact, I think I'll have to start thinking about a second print run soon! A number of people have told me different stories in the comic were their favourite, which is great, its nice to be able to appeal to a wide range of tastes. If you have a copy, please drop me a line & let me know what you thought of it (even if you hated it! I'm a big boy, I can take it!). If you want to get your hands on a copy, its on sale at Indyplanet and I'm hoping to have it in a few comic stores soon too. As for upcoming projects, I have one or two little things on the go at the moment, which I'll post about when there is actually something to see! My next small press comic project is also now in the works. It's a comic about Irish superheroes. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, haven't we heard this before? It's a big departure from Celtic Knights, and possibly my most serious work so far. It's also the biggest thing I've done too, so I'm not putting a deadline on it. Lets just say it will be done when its done. I'm also hoping to work on the next issue of Short Sharp Shocks at the same time, so I'm racking my brains for a few new stories for that too!
Anyway, thats it for now. I'm sure I'll post again some time in the futue. Did you sit down and read through all that? Well done you, have a picture!

Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-43040344895173188922010-05-12T00:20:00.001-07:002010-05-12T01:07:04.067-07:00Short Sharp Shocks is here!Hey folks!

After several months of running round, pricing printers, being nice to comic shop owners, having computer headaches (and a bit of drawing thrown in too!), my new comic, Short Sharp Shocks is ready to go!
Its a collection of short strips all written & drawn by me (mainly cause my ego didn't leave enough room for anyone else's name on the cover). I could go on and on (and on) about how good it is, but if you had any sense you wouldn't take my word for it would you? No.
So instead you can read a review of it by David O' Leary of comicrelated.com

"SHORT SHARP SHOCKS # 1
Story by: Ger Hankey
Art by: Ger Hankey
Letters by: Ger Hankey
Cover by: Ger Hankey
Publisher: Self Published
Reviewed By: David O' Leary
This is the first issue of a self published title from the artist of the much lauded Celtic Knights which, I think was the best Irish comic in recent memory. I know that there is a new artist coming on board for issue two in American Tim Dumas and I also heard through the grapevine that original series artist Ger Hankey was working on some creator owned material. Until I received this book, I hadn't seen anything about it and was actually looking forward to reading it.

The thing about self publishing books is that all the risk is on you. If the material is poor, you're sunk. If the material is golden, you are sitting on something that can pay the bills. The last completely one creator published book I read was Dublin City Comics from Alan Nolan last year which I really liked and noted as much in the review. I would like to see more of this type of stance and honestly brave move from a person to self publish in these uncertain times. Those who do such a thing deserve to have their work looked at by many people and as such I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

The format of this book is four short stories in the vein of 2000AD. The first story is a silent strip charting the travails of a bin-bot named Binbo whose only job in life is to collect rubbish. One day he comes across a flyer for a holiday on a beach and he likes the idea only to be laughed out of his boss's office. He comes across the idea of strapping two planks of wood to himself and jumping off a roof and flying to his dream holiday. He barely makes it. He crashes on the beach and after realising that he has no money has to go to work. I liked this strip a lot. The parallels to WALL-E are there but there is enough an original personality and premise to make this first story a winner.

The second story is Mighty Morgan: Ruler Of The Earth. This was brilliant. You couldn't help but hear the narration in your own head in the voice of the guy who spoke over the action in the original Batman TV series. The was a cool witty dialogue in the script and this strip worked well in that the art and script melded beautifully to tell the story in unison. This would have been a cool comic by itself.

The third story was nourish in tone and called Hybrid. It told the story of a hero who has a power that made me laugh out loud, but in a cool way. Hybrid's power is that s/he is a genetically engineered hero who can change gender at the drop of a hat. Like the story says itself; "just consider of the engineering that must have gone into the costume." Great stuff.

The final story stars Blackstuff, who is the official mascot of Transformers Ireland Online. It tells the story of Blackstuff who is confronted by a version of Transformers bully. Blackstuff takes care of him in the only way an Irish person can. He gets the bully blind drunk. Another moment that made me smile.

I was very happy with the quality of the book. Ger's art has never been in question and until now his writing was an unknown quantity. I'm happy to report that it is just as good. This would be a great buy as it is a fun book that I would hope to see more of. If there are going to be more issues of this book in the future I would wholeheartedly endorse it. You just don't get enough of these books nowadays. A great first issue"

The comic is going to be launched on the 5th of June at the 2D festival in Derry, then the following week (12th June) at the Point Village comics event. After that, I'll be doing the rounds of the comic shops and trying to get it on as many shelves as possible. I'll post up details of where it's being sold as soon as I know! Yes, I know its been a ridiculously long time since I've posted (yet again), and I always end up apologising for it. Well, you know what? Not this time. I'm busy, get over it!!

Seriously though, I've been keeping my head down and doing lots of drawing, and now my new comic is finished!! Its an anthology called Short Sharp Shocks, and I sent it off to the printers this morning. It will be available on Indyplanet soon, so stay tuned for the details. I'll have proper hard copies in a couple of weeks and I'm going to start selling them in June. Why June? Well, it seems to be the month things are happening in Irish Comics. First off is the 2D comics festival in Derry, and the following week there will be a comics fair at the new Point Village right here in Dublin. I'll give you lovely people more details closer to the stage.

So expect some shameless self-promotion on the way!! In the meantime, here's some artwork I've been working on to keep you all happy.

Till next year, err, time!Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-20858595746813759002009-09-10T03:36:00.000-07:002009-09-11T07:17:43.881-07:00Is it getting dusty in here?Hey people!

Whats it been? Three months? Dear God, I'm really bad at this blogging thing! In my defense, its been a busy few months with other stuff, so its not like I had much drawing stuff to post up. Never let it be said I talk too much & have nothing to say, eh?
Over the last little while, I've basically done a few Transformers things. A couple of commissions for people, a Mosaic for the IDW project (which is currently being coloured by fellow Irish artist & TF fan, Gareth Watson) which I will post up as soon as possible, and the strip below.
As some of you know, some months ago, TF Ireland online launched a forum (check it out here). Recently they have started a project called "Trans-Missions", which is a group of 1-page comic strips with an Irish slant on things (i.e. they don't take themselves too seriously!!). My contribution features the websites mascot, Blackstuff, and is called "Bad Day at Blackstuff's". Its the first time I've done something completely digitally - no pens or paper invloved! It was.. an experience, I'll say that much. Its not a bad way to do things, and I can understand the advantages, but personally I think I prefer the old-fashioned way. I spend way to much time on the computer in work as it is!

So whats up next for me? Well, I'm starting to work on a new comic (which I'm hoping to have ready for Derry next year), and getting a few new pieces ready for the Dublin convention in November, so watch this space!

In the meantime, enjoy "Bad Day at Blackstuff's"

Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-65754100246163141762009-06-03T05:52:00.000-07:002009-06-03T06:31:47.347-07:00Hot Town, Summer in the city...For any of you living in Ireland at the moment, you may have noticed something; its bloody hot! After a month of what can best be described as "schizophrenic" weather where I could be both roasted and soaked on my ten-minute walk to work, it seems to have finally settled into the hot week to ten days the we Paddys laughingly call "summer". I could go on about what a pain it is for me and my milk-bottle complexion, but you are not here to listen to me moan, are you?

So what have I been up to since the last time I updated the blog? Drawing like a lunatic!
There are two conventions coming up in the next month, 2D Fesitval in Derry is on this weekend (4th-6th June), and then Edition Book Arts Summer Edition 2009 is on the 4th of July in Temple Bar, Dublin. I'll be at both, selling comics, sketches, spare body parts or anything else I can get people to buy! They should both be good events, and are both free to the public, so come along and look out for me there! Heres a couple of pics to whet your appetite, enjoy!
Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-48774868080580662732009-04-29T07:13:00.001-07:002009-04-29T08:01:23.432-07:00Id like to thank...Well, first off, thanks to everyone who voted in the "Design an Irish Transformer" competition. And this is my first post of the year! So, eh, happy new year everyone!
So what have I been up to? Well its been busy, I'll say that much. After taking a bit of a break and not doing any drawing at all in December (well, almost none!), most of January was too busy to do anything much either. We went to Hazels sisters wedding in Wales at the end of the month. It was lovely, a great weekend and a really nice place, but organising two adults & six kids to go anywhere takes a serious amount of preparation, so I couldn't really sit around drawing while Hazel did it all. So I got out of her way mostly. I'm nice like that.
So between getting back and now I have been a very busy chap, as you might imagine. First off, I had my latest Transfomers Mosaic, "Where the spark is" finished & published. I'm actually surprised at how quick it got out into the world, as these things usually have a few months of a waiting list ahead of them. Its possible that the fact it was written by Josh van Reyk, writer of the upcoming "Spotlight: Jazz" and one of the organisers of the Mosaic project, might have something to do with it. But hey, who's complaining? Check it out below.
Next on the list was a commission for some pictures of some Irish Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) stars, for which I was handsomely rewarded with a shiny new website! So now there are even more place for me to bug you all on the internet! Its www.gerhankey.com, if you want to have a gander.
Oh yeah, Celtic Knights, almost forgot about that!! (Kidding, Stephen, honest!) Sales of Issue 1 have been going great guns, thanks everyone who bought it. If you feel the need to buy another copy, just in case your first one spontaneously combusts or something, by all means do. Its better to be safe than sorry!
Stephen has been inundated with people asking him when the next issue will be out, as well as some slightly stranger questions, like whats Rubinettes bra size and does Junker have a Dublin 4 accent?!? I'll leave you to field those ones, Stephen...
As for when Issue 2 wil be out, the answer is.... sometime this year! Its going well at the minute, but I'm happy enough with the quality that I don't want to rush it to meet a deadline. Plus, I have to let paying work take piority. What I will say is that we will have a preview ready for the Bristol & Derry conventions in May & June respectively, so keep an eye out if you are going.
Thats enough of me for now, I'll leave you with a few bits I've done over the last while to keep you all quiet till the next time I post.
September, if past form is anything to go by!!

Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-44380716932491951522008-12-22T05:54:00.000-08:002008-12-22T06:22:11.583-08:00Its beginning to look a lot like...Ho! Ho! Ho!
Well, my favourite time of year is almost upon us again - I am just a big kid after all - so I thought I'd put in a quick entry to my recently neglected blog just to make that little guilty feeling go away. Lots of comic news for you all. First up, the colour covers of Celtic Knights Issue 1 have arrived & Stephen is dilligently dispatching them to comic book shops as we speak. So If you are doing some last minute Christmas shopping in Dublin City Centre, pop into one of our great cities fine comic book establishments and ask for your copy. If they don't have it, tut and shake your head disapprovingly. They might be guilt-tripped into picking it up!! If you are elswhere in the country, just drop myself or Stephen a line & we will be glad to post you out a copy. We are those kind of guys. We do hope to be able to distribute to comic shops around the country in the New Year, so watch this space!

The reviews of issue 1 are in! David O' Leary, of Comic Related wrote this review for the website:

"Book Summery: 90% of Earths superheroes are either dead or in hiding. This is the best of what's left.
I wasn't sure what to expect of this when I first got it. What drew to me to it before anything else in my stack was the homage cover to X-Men #11, I had been picking up a lot of smaller press items recently and some of it was lukewarm but this; By issues end, I wanted more. As in now!

Stephen Paul Coffey is a published novelist of Zodiac: A Rosemary Herbb Adventure and a very capable comic writer. I adored the idea of an Irish superhero team and was very curious to see if it could be pulled off. The story opens at the International Mega-Human Headquarters in Dublin where we learn that 90% of the worlds superheroes are dead or in hiding after the fail safe files on the heroes were stolen with the purpose of wiping out the heroes by the villain "The Broker" General Blake then sets about recruiting the best of what is left and what is left is a rag tag bunch of misfits. Coffey injects a wit and enough sharp dialogue that it was a genuine laugh out loud read. I cannot tell what it was like to read a superhero comic where places like Dublin and Tallaght are referenced and the accents are written as they sound and the jokes are funny to those who know the region and to those who are not. I now know how New Yorkers feel when the read Marvel Comics! Now that the set up issue is out of the way I hope that we see a continuation of the book soon. Coffey's cast of characters are not exactly what you would call world class. Take for example Fallout a guy from a galaxy far away, who has all the powers of an A-lister buy whose control over gravity is unreliable. Or Rapid who has an overbearing over protective mother who comes along to the recruitment meeting but has to walk because the militaries vehicle has its wheels stolen while in Rapids house. Viciously fuuny!

Ger Hankey is currently involved in the "Transformers: Mosaic" projct run by the IDW publishing. So far he has been invloved in the production of six pieces for the project. This is my first exposure to his work though and I found the black & white interior art suited the story quiet well. His art is very easy to follow and where needs be the facial expressions of just about all the characters are well suited to the story allowances. There is a very strong base here for Hankey to build on .

I was very surprised to find that the book was as strong as it was. I have great hope for the book as it was a very funny read with a lot to draw in a local audience. If anyone overseas can get hold of this book then I very much recommend that you pick it up. As for Stephen Paul Coffey and Ger Hankey, bravo gentlemen."

Well thats about a good a note to end the year on as any, I suppose! I'd like to thank both Stephen and Barry for all the hard work they put into both projects, and hopefully we can do it all again bigger & better next year!
I'll leave you with a couple of recent Transformers pictures. I'd like to thank everybody for your support & praise, and I hope you all have a great Christmas & a very Happy New Year.
Now, where are those presents...

Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-45335786222970652402008-12-01T02:21:00.000-08:002008-12-01T03:10:05.789-08:00So now what?I know that I'm a few days late updating the blog this week, so apologies. I wasn't going to bother at all this week but I wouldn't want you all thinking I was just using the blog to sell comics at the convention.....
It all went very well actually. Both comics were very well received, with Celtic Knights selling out of all the copies we brought with us!! There are a few more copies on sale in Sub City, Exchequer St. here in Dublin, and once our second print run arrives it should be in a few other places too. I'll keep you posted so watch this space!! I got to meet a lot of fellow Irish comic creators (there are too many to mention by name, but I was very impressed with the standard of Irish independent comics out there) and a few of the bigger names in the business. Irelands own Nick Roche, of IDW Transformers fame, did a great sketch for me (have a look below), and was showing off artwork for the first two issues of his latest project "Maximum Dinobots", which looks great.
I spent most of the convention sketching robots for people & trying to force sweets on them, so if you bought a copy of either of the comics or some artwork- thank you, and I have the number of a good dentist if you want it...
So next on the agenda are some more robots... I have a commission piece and another mosaic to do before I get cracking on Issue 2 of the Knights. I'm taking a break from anything too pressing between now and Christmas though, so I'll probably not get anything at all done...
No picutres by me this week, but one of me! Top one is Ultra Magnus by Nick Roche, and the bottom one is the Celtic Knights/Rosemary Herbb table at the convention. I'm the one in the middle about to get a smack on the head from Stephen, with Barry wisely staying as far away from it all as he can. Next convention, I'm sitting on the end...

Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-82827350292647774602008-11-20T06:54:00.000-08:002008-11-21T02:00:41.546-08:00Get comics, check. Tidy portfolio, check. Write blog...Well, its the last blog entry before Dublin City Comic Con kicks off, bright and early on Saturday morning. I'm all(most) ready to go, I've pretty much done everything I can at this point, so all that remains is to turn up and enjoy the weekend. There are one or two panels and workshops I'm looking forward to seeing, and one where we get to "launch" the comic. I'm a little nervous about that one, but not too worried. If we manage to sell a few comics then I'll be a happy bunny. That said, I won't turn any of the major comic companies away if they offer me a job either!
Apart from the comics, I'll be selling a few pictures, (mostly transformers stuff) I have done, and doing a few sketches on the day. If you are coming, make sure and pop by to say hello, I promise I won't bite (though I can't make any guarantees about Stephen....)
Also going on sale at our table will be the fantastic "Rosemary Herbb: The Return", worth buying if only to look at Barry McGowans jaw-dropping artwork (the lettering is pretty good too, though!), and a few posters. Actually, when its all written down like that, it looks like I'm in for a very busy weekend!
Well, with all that to do, I'll leave you all to it. I'll no doubt have a post-mortem of some sort (hopefully a good one) next week, but till then I'll leave you with a quick sketch I did of Judge Dredd, just to keep the old fingers moving...
Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-67768610689120486182008-11-14T01:17:00.000-08:002008-11-14T02:55:13.857-08:00Well, with little over a week to go to the Dublin City Comic Con & the launch of the Celtic Knights comic, I'm happy to say that everything just might work out ok! The comic has been sent to the printers (with two different covers, no less), so I'm just polishing off my portfolio & stuff at the minute. For those of you not able to make it to the con, the comic will be on sale in some comic shops in Dublin, and we are making arrangements for those of you further afield, too. I'll update the blog with details as soon as I get them.
Aside from selling the comic (and tempting you all with sweets), I'll be doing sketches and selling of a few of my original drawings too (at a very reasonable price!!). Have a look at my DeviantArt page, and if anything takes your fancy, let me know and I'll keep it aside for you.
Thats is for now, this weeks preview is the the coloured comic cover (so you know what to look for!!). Till next week!!

Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-56778370400778904632008-11-07T02:06:00.000-08:002008-11-07T02:23:07.939-08:00And we're done!Well, by tonight, I will be! I'm just putting the finishing touches to the cover, and then its off to the printers with the Celtic Knights! After five months of hard work, I'll have some of my spare time back. For a little while, anyway.
Well, a little over two weeks to go to the Dublin City Comic-Con. It should be a fun couple of days. There are a couple of people going that I want to meet, and basically have a good nosey at what everyone else has on offer. So if you are there, make sure and drop by and say hello, we will be the ones with all the sweets!
Right, I'd better get off and actually finish this cover so. In the meantime, here are the pencils for the cover for you to have a look at. Enjoy!
Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4451690860046649881.post-29050180343132541232008-10-29T05:12:00.000-07:002008-10-30T14:39:56.046-07:00Starting to breathe again! And more importantly, sleep!! I have finally finished the internal artwork for Celtic Knights, and I'm working on the cover and other little bits and bobs too. All those late nights, early mornings, and luchtimes without lunches are paying off and I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Now if we can get a few people to buy it, I'll be a happy man...
Rosemary: the Return is now ready to buy online, for those of you who wont be at the convention or near a Dublin comic shop. You can buy it here now, and its well worth the money, believe me. We will be doing the same thing for Celtic Knights in due course, don't you worry.
As for the convention itself (now a frighteningly close three weeks away), not only are we selling the comics at our table (as well as original artwork, sketches, and a bucket-load of sweets to lure you in with), Barry and I will also be attending a "New Title Launch" panel, where we will give a presentation of the comics, and have them reviewed by C.B. Cebulski, former Marvel editor. So, you know, no pressure or anything...
I have a preview of some actual artwork from the actual Celtic Knights comic for you this week (I haven't done that in a while, have I?), its the page with the first meeting of all the Knights. Enjoy!!
Ger Hankeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07315651850114602082noreply@blogger.com0
